It is once again time for the future of SDB historical work to be discussed! As announced in the Sabbath Recorder, the Historical Society will be meeting this coming weekend, May 31-June 1 in Janesville.
Saturday evening and Sunday morning, the Board of Directors will be gathering to review the work of the last year and set goals for the historical work for the coming years. The Directors are: Janet Thorngate (President, Salem, WV); Rev. Brent Hannah (Vice-President, Salem, WV); Rev. Helmer Umana (2nd Vice President, Falls Church, VA); Judy Parrish (Secretary, Battle Creek, MI); Rev. Paul Green (Treasurer, Milton, WI); Elizabeth Camenga (Associate Director, Milton, WI); and David Fox (Associate Director, Colorado Springs, CO).
This year’s annual meeting of the Society is this weekend, June 1st, at 2:00pm at the SDB Center in Janesville, WI. All interested Seventh Day Baptists are welcomed to attend. The Society’s official business will be transacted and updates will be given on Society projects. In addition, one director will be elected to a five-year term, one associate director will be elected to a two year term, and the Society will elects its officers.
This year, there is an additional matter of business which must be handled by the Society–a vote on pursuing merger with the General Conference. This is in response to a request from the Conference to consider such a merger three years ago and on recommendation from the Task Force appointed especially by the Society to consider the many challenges facing the Society’s ministries in the coming years.
A mailing was sent to the members of the Society in late April including more detailed information about the meetings and the business to be transacted. Members of the Society should have already received their proxy forms in this mailing in the event that they wish to vote and cannot attend the meeting in person. At this point, members can still vote if they can scan their proxy form or send their voting preferences by email to the Librarian-Historian (sdbhist@seventhdaybaptist.org). If members have any questions, concerns or difficulties with getting their proxy votes to the Center, please contact us!
We desire your prayers for God’s guidance for this meeting! May God grant the directors wisdom to make a future for our past!
